Local Chapters
We have always encouraged faithful Catholic women to come together on the local level. We are convinced that forming local groups can be important.
- Fellowship with other believers will encourage us all.
- Our prayer and work and study together has great potential for strengthening our own faith.
- The Holy Father has stressed that Catholic women have an important task -- especially of transmitting the true faith as mothers and/or teachers. We need to prepare ourselves for this key role.
- The witness and faithful presence of Catholic women can give support and encouragement to our priests and bishops.
- Visible groups of faithful Catholic women will help contradict the false claim that most Catholic women reject Church teachings or feel "oppressed" by the Church.
We hope to encourage the cultivation of groups of Catholic women -- even small groups. Some of these local groups might eventually blossom into WFF affiliates, though this is not by any means obligatory.
Please pray with us for the Holy Spirit's guidance in forming groups that support and encourage Catholic women in fulfilling our vocations as women and as faithful daughters of the Church.
What WFF can do to help
1. We can help you assemble a group of interested women in your area.
a) In many places in the United States, we can put you in touch with other Catholic women near you who might be interested in forming a local group by providing you with the names of all the signers of the Affirmation for Catholic Women in your locality (by zip codes) whom you may contact individually for the purpose of an organizing a meeting.
b) We will send you as many copies as you need of the Affirmation for Catholic Women and other WFF materials. [See "Suggestions for parish/local meetings"]
c) You have permission to copy material you may find useful from our web site.2. We can give you suggestions and simple program guides. We can suggest ideas that have worked well in other localities and help you locate sources for speakers, materials, publications, etc. [See "Suggestions for parish/local meetings"]
3. We can provide a speaker from our staff for a gathering you might plan, and, in the case of a larger event, can help you with some of the program planning. If you can get a group together and raise the funds, Women For Faith & Family might bring a "mini-conference" or one-day seminar to your area. (You would only need to cover our travel expenses.)
4. We can publish news from your group in Voices.
What you need to do
To help make the idea of a Women for Faith & Family group a reality, we have established some basic guidelines.
1. First, every prospective member of your group should be signers of the Affirmation for Catholic Women, our statement of fidelity to the Catholic Church and her teachings. This assures a gathering that will be firmly committed to essential teachings of the Catholic faith.
2. To maintain close communication with your group, we will need regular reports on all your activities as your group develops. (This could be copies of minutes from your meetings.) This is especially important as you're getting started.3. Each group must be entirely self-supporting.
4. The name WOMEN FOR FAITH & FAMILY and the logo may be used only by approved and established affiliate groups. When you and your associates believe you have a viable affiliate group, you may apply for a CHARTER. Acceptance of this CHARTER by both WFF and your group will officially establish your new WFF chapter.
5. Without prior authorization from a board member of WFF, no group member may speak publicly on behalf of Women for Faith & Family or identify themselves as representing WFF. (Only WFF board members may give this authorization.)
